I must admit, finding the right gear at the right price is a daunting task. I spent as much time in Amazon as I have on reading and studying. I will list my equipment and links below soon. You have to know that I am tight and hate wasting money, so I am always shopping for the right gear that will work without breaking the bank. After all, total income so far is $0.00, actually, that is not true, if we do a cost/profit analysis, it would be a RED Number!
Below are items I think is a great starting point. I have, as I guess we all do, upgraded as budget allowed. I can say that I don't regret any of the items I bought, but in hindsight, I would have saved money by getting the Audio Interface and MXL 770 from the beginning, but if it turned out to be something I didn't love doing, that too would have been a waste of money, and now I have spare gear if something breaks.

The Software is:
Audacity 2.1.2 - I love it! It's easy, does everything you need, and so fast to learn, and if you grab my book The Best Start-Up Guide to Audacity for Narrators you will get started even faster!

Pro Tools First - Still Learning, this program is obviously great but not very intuitive, I will learn it, but man! So different than Audacity!

Neewer® NW-700 Professional Studio Broadcasting & Recording Condenser Microphone Kit

This is the Mic and Kit I started with, for the price it is great and I can't complain about the sound. I still use the arm, I am sure there are better, but it works and that is all you can ask for. You will need a Power Supply or Audio Interface.

Neewer 1-Channel 48V Phantom Power Supply with Adapter, BONUS+XLR 3 Pin Microphone Cable for Any Condenser Microphone Music Recording Equipment (8 feet)

This is the recommended Power Supply if you go with the Mic listed above, also check out the different packages, some include the Power Supply for a reduced price.

Shure A15HP High Pass Filter

With the above setup, I had a constant hum, so I bought this filter and still use it, The noise was generated from my environment and this wipes it out. Its kinda expensive, but it worked.

Focusrite Scarlett Solo (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools | First

There are a few Audio Interfaces to choose from, I picked the Focusrite Solo for the price and reputation. I am really pleased with this purchase. The Solo has everything I need but I included a link to the 2i2 for those that may need more. The bundle was also very nice because I get to play with Pro Tools First.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd Gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools | First

I included a link to the 2i2 for those that may need more. I picked Focusrite for the price and reputation. The Solo has everything I need for voice only and this bundle is also very nice because you get to play with Pro Tools First.

BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UM2

Another highly recommended Interface is this BEHRINGER U-PHORIA UM2. It has great reviews and a great price.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Headphones

I included the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Headphones because you just have to! with over 2400 reviews and 4.5 Stars, yo now know why it is the great debate over which pair is best. I think it will just come down to fit and price. I always loved Sennheiser products, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone

I love these headphones! My internet research and experience with these indicates that they are at least as good, and probably better than anything else for the price. The sound quality from these headphones is fantastic. It is the Pro's choice for a reason.

Mackie CR Series CR3 - 3" Creative Reference Multimedia Monitors (Pair)

I need better speakers for my initial edit and I have been reviewing monitors like crazy, these little speakers have over 1400 reviews and people just seem to love them. Update! I bought them and they will blow your mind! Super sound, you will love them! Buy them today!

Audio-Technica AT2035 Large Diaphragm Studio Condenser Microphone Bundle with Shock Mount, Pop Filter, and XLR Cable

I included the Audio-Technica AT2035 in this review because it is high on my wish list, a lot of people compare this Mic to the Rode, and for the price, this will make me think hard before my next Mic upgrade.

Studio Projects B1 Vocal Condenser Microphone, Cardioid

I included the Studio Projects B1 in this review because it is one of the highest rated Mics in this price range. Do your research, read the reviews, if you can afford more, this would be a great addition to any home studio.

MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount

I included the 990 in this review because the big debate is whether to choose this one over the 770 because the price is so close. According to everything I read, the 770 is the better choice for voice, but I don't think you would be disappointed with either.

MXL 770 Cardioid Condenser Microphone

I just bought this Mic, and I have to say I Love It! Read the reviews, everybody loves it and for the price, it cannot be beat. It is such a deep rich sound and just makes a nice warm tone. I am very pleased with this purchase and I know you will be too!

12 Pack Acoustic Panels Studio Foam Wedges 1" X 12" X 12"

Remember, this is not "Professional Quality" they are thinner to what you see hanging in studios, but those are way different. There are thicker versions but they cost more, these are made for slight sound reduction but mainly for preventing reverb. This is a better looking alternative to shipping blankets.

3M General Purpose 45 Spray Adhesive, 10-1/4-Ounce

Don't forget Spray Adhesive for the foam, this is the best price I have found anywhere. Oh, and it is sticky.

Throat Spray for the Professional Artist

As yall all know I just caught a cold, and while trying to push "Voice Ready" this is when I realized just how good this product helps. I won't lie, it does not taste great, but a couple of sprays does lubricate your throat and reduces mouth noise

Lexicon Alpha 2-Channel Desktop Recording Studio

This Audio Interface comes highly recommended by none other than Bill DeWees himself. I read a lot about this unit and the reviews make me want to try it now.

Behringer Xenyx 802 Premium 8-Input 2-Bus Mixer with Xenyx Mic Preamps and British EQs

This Mixer comes highly recommended for when you need a little more than just a +48 V phantom power.
